Default speed shut-off?

hello people! Im new to the neighborhood.

I have got a 1991 chevy camaro, and it has 110 mph on the dash.. but at about 130 mph it shuts off, wont go any faster. Is there a way to disable/take out the speed shutoff switch?

Thanks! Dustin

GM installed a speed limiter in the PROM (chip) for 110 MPH, due to non-speed rated stock tires. Only way to disable it (just make sure your tires are capable of the speed) is to burn or buy a new PROM with the speed limitation remove. But in your case leave it alone, speed kills.

I know that because I had a friend behind me in a lexus, and he told me that 130 was the fastest he got. how would I go about burning the old speed chip, or getting another one?

Just gotta ask, why would you even want that? How often will you find yourself in need of going 130+? I would like that number in the 1/4...but not on the highway.

there is a wire you can cut to turn that off. Dont ask me how it works, all i know is what i read. Havent done it. But i agree, there is no reason to be going over 90 on the streets or highways. You wanna go fast? go to a track..
