There's an article in "Engine Masters" I think you should read, it's titled "Hate Me". It's about building a 305 up. They get over 370 hp from it and it's with reasonable mods.

 

Well if yours is that slugish I dont think it is because it is a 305. I think it may need some fine tuning and adjusting. Plus you can not always blame the motor. Your rear gear ratio will have an affect on how quick and fast your car is.

 

i was having a conersattion about the gear ratios with someone today.
i think its gonna be alot in the tuning it runs fine smooth etc. but you floor it and nothing really happens at all

the engine was changed over to carborated im assuming no1 took the time to tune the car to accomodate the change.

itll be a slow on going hobby either way

i originaly wanted a 93-to 97 rs to put a 350 in rather than a 84 z28 but ill see how this goes. i love the look of it

 

Floor it and nothing happens? Is your tranny kicking down?

 

The 84s are carbed and a good working, adjusted carb works out well. Thats where the AH and G hanger comes in. Assuming you have the Q-jet the AH are secondary metering rods and the G hanger is what they attach to. They are very simple to change.

 

I would look into a clogged exhaust, as that's what it sounds like to me. Get yourself a vacuum gauge. Every mechaninc should have one anyway. Hook it up to the brake booster line (without the vac retention valve in place) and turn the car on. You should have 17-22 inhg (inches of mercury) of vacuum, then snap the throttle open quickly, the gauge should drop to zero inhg, if it goes down slowly, you've got a clog in the exhaust. The catylitic converter is probably the culpret if there's a clog, but you should check the whole system. It's not a sure thing, but what you describe seems like a clogged exhaust.
