Default Replacing my clutch

My clutch is going bad on my 88. I've found OEM kits for around $150. I've never replaced a clutch. Has anyone done a clutch on a 3rd gen? Is it something I might be able to do in my driveway with a manual or should I take it to a garage and spend the money for the labor.

it could be done in your driveway, or garage. its not that hard. just time consumeing. Get a haynes or chiltons manual. either will work for this job. And prepare to spend several hours on it.

I replaced my clutch about 4 months ago and it's not difficult to do but like 350rs said it's very time consuming. You can do it in the driveway with a manual and get some one to assist you cause you'll need the help with the tranny, it weighs a ton. If you can get your hands on a lift and a tranny jack it'll make the process so much easier.

if i were you, i wouldn't get a aftermarket clutch, i don't know why, but oem specs say that you should only replace clutches with the stock one, it reduces wear on the tranny and keeps it alive longer, there shouldn't be a reason as to purchase a heavier duty clutch unless you are building it for the drag, always use stock clutches if you are going to just drive it around town and stuff.

So if I've never done a clutch and I'm not stupid, then a Chiltons manual and a good amount of time is all I need to do it myself? Any special tools or anything that I will need? Would I be able to use a floor jack to hold up the tranny? Thanks for the help guys.
