rear axle bent

rear axle bent
My 92 Camaro RS was hit on the right rear and was pushed into a curb which bent the left axle. I found one for about $70 new that someone has that they do not need.It is from a 92 Camaro Z28 with disc brakes. My 92 RS has drum brakes. My question is,will the axle from the Z28 fit on my RS.Any help will be appreciated!!

I'd sure look at that housing very closely! If it bent the axle you've probably got a tweaked axle tube at the very least! I agree that I'd be looking for a complete assembly, not just the axle.

I took it to a mechanic who pulled the wheel and ran it with wheel off while it was in air and the axle itself was wobling. I can still drive the car ,the wheel wobbles though. He said it should be fine to just replace the axle shaft, everthing else looks o.k.. will the Z28 axle work ? The dealer shows same part #, but I still want to be sure. Thanks for your help!!

1990-92 axles are 28 spline, earlier 3rd gens are 26 spline. Just make sure the new axle is what they say it is. You might think it's hard to tweak an axle, but not when you consider the thousands of pounds of side force you have when sliding sideways into a curb that doesn't move. The wheel and/or axle is the first to give before the tube gets damaged. Throw a straight edge on the axle tube for your own peace of mind, and compare left side to right.

i also recomend replacing the entire axle, although checking the tube with a straight edge will let you know if its bent or not. do you know the length of the axle? i have a pair of 28 spline axles from my blazer that i could sell to you for $50 plus shipping.
