questions about an engine swap
one more question - my friend says that i have a turbo 350 transmission in my camaro. it is a 3-speed as i stated before. he says that it would be able to bolt up to the 305 engine i want to put in. is this true because he is very knowledgable about cars but i always thought that this was a week transmission.
That trans won't bolt up. The TH(stands for Turbo-Hydramatic, it's originally a Buick name, so don't ask...)350 is a decent trans, but if you get a new one, get yourself a beefed up 700r4, and you'll be alot better off for fuel milage since it's got overdrive, and a well built one can handle upwards of 1000 ft pounds.[/align]
Alot of 305s came with the th350 stock, the th350 was made for each gm brand pontiac is specific to pontiac, buick is specitic to buick, and chevy is specific to chevy. The th350 is actually a fairly stout trans with the th400 being stronger. The 700 has the reputation of being weaker stock vrs stock. The choice depends on the use, horsepower, and what you have available, or want to spend.
