Default NOt cooling, no fans

I have an 89 5.7. The temp gauge is broken and tomnight the cooling resovour was boiling. ANy ideas why the fans are not going on? Can it be that the gauge is broken and not transmitting the need foer them to kick in? Can there be a broken fuse? Ironiclly, the hood light does not work either and the bulb is good.

not sure about the gauge but as far as the fan not coming on, it could possibly be the 2 sensors that are supposed to kick it on have gone bad....im not sure where the sensors for an 89 5.7 are but mine are located 1: the intake thing where the filters are 2: it connects on the fan motor itself to somewhere near the passenger side near the battery to get power im assuming.......mine started messin up a while ago and i wiggled the 1st one i was talkin about and it started workin, i need to change mine i know for sure, i priced the sensor at advanced auto parts for like $10

hope that helps you out

my fan switch was under the passenger side head, only accessible from the bottom of the car, and the sending unit for the gaugue was under the drivers side head which you can get to from the top of the engine bay

I eneded up changing the whole gauge. It works perfectly now and the fans work. Well one of them does. IT goes up and down and shuts off too :0 the only think is the nmbering in Degree's does not make logical sense. It says at cruise the car is 110* That does not make any logical sense to me.
