No Idea What Happened
Basically I was driving my car today and as I'm getting onto the highway, I 50 mph and all of a sudden my car stopped running right. It sounded really weird and unstable, I had no acceleration whatsoever, unless I had my foot on the gas pedal, the car would slowly sputter out and die. I honestly thought something major was wrong and that my car was going to take $$$ to repair.
Well I got to my destination, parked, popped the hood and saw nothing looked wrong underneath. There were no fluids leaking, no service engine light, no sign anything was wrong. I left the car parked for about 30 minutes, came back to it, and when I started it, nothing was wrong. It was running fine. I drove it all the way home without anything like that happening or going wrong.
Now, I'm assuming that's not the end of the problem and I expect it to be back and happen again. Any ideas on what happened or things I should check for? I'm really scared to drive it anywhere.

alright thats what i was thinking is a ground shorting out was a possibility. forgot to mention the type of car... 1989 Camaro RS. It was a brand new (5k miles) 350 crate engine that was put in two years ago, but it's still TBI.
i had the same problem once, figured it was my fuel pump. replaced the pump and a few weeks later had the same problem. turned out the hot wire for my fuel pump is on the battery clamp and it had gotten slightly loose so occasionally it would lose contact and stall
The part where you said you needed to keep the pedal maches makes me think its not so much electrical (alternator/battery) could be intermitent loose conection.. I am thinking more on the lines of a fuel system clog. When you shut down the car you turned off the pump, releasing the vacume, causing the debris to float out of the way... maybe... of course it could be something else, electrical would be easier to check.
another thing i was thinking is if someone possibly urinated in my gas tank? i live on a college campus with my car here currently. it sits in a garage that doesn't have a garage door on it... still haven't seen a problem with it recently, but i'll post again if something changes.
