Default New 85 Iroc

As a GM tech I have never seen one of these with all the plastic still on. The guys that received the car would remove the plastic to check for damage before they signed for the cars. Here in PA cars have to be test driven before they could get there inspection sticker. So we got to drive all the cars on the road before anyone else. On high end cars or special order we ended up with our boss in the passages seat . I can remember the first L98 350 Iroc I did the new car service on, that was a fun test drive. Of course the Corvettes were fun also but they where few and far between.

I am surprised GM let a car out with a safety inspection, GM used the new car service as the last quality check before the customer got it. I have found defect and even a few safety issues. I wonder if that was going to a race team instead of a private owner.

Just my opinion but I wish there existed more "As off the trailers" examples out there. It would be nice for a restorer to have a place to go to see exactly what he is trying to reproduce without wondering if he is copying someone else mistake or reading it out of a book.

It would put to bed a lot of the talk you hear at shows, no that bolt should not be painted, that one is zinc coated, That zinc coating is the wrong shade and so on and on.

I just thought of this, the other thing that is odd, is the cars always showed up at the dealer with 50+ miles on them, it was common to see 70 miles. I was told this was because of the required testing at the factory. At one point Chrysler got their wrist smacked by the government because they where turning back their required test miles and delivering a car with near zero miles. There is no way this are was meant for a private seller. GM had to be sending to someone they trusted would not put it on the road.
