Default Interchangeable 3rd Gen Parts

Hey, I've got an opportunity to buy an 85 Z28. It needs a fuel pump and I have one from a 91 RS. I'm not sure if they're compatible. I think the Z is carburated. The RS is TBI. Would that matter at all when it comes to the fuel pump? Thanks. Feel free to use this thread for your own Q's and A's too.

I have not done that swap but I suspect the pumps are the same. Look them up for both cars at Autozone.com or advancedautparts websites. If the resulting part number is the same, voila!

I hope this helps.

Double check to see how the car is aspirated. If its carb, it will be a mechanical pump. If its TPI it maybe the same as TBI, I wouldn't stress over it though. Any fuel pump is rather inexpensive.

Default Fuel pump

The carbureted car will have a mechanical pump; whereas the fuel injected pump will be an electrical unit, located in the tank and it runs about 30 psi. The mechanical pump runs approximately 6 psi and it is located on the lower right side front of the block.

also a tbi pump is about 14 to 18 psi. a tpi pump puts out a lot more so they are not the same.
