high idle
He guys i drive a 86 z28 5spwith a 305 carb. Like a week ago i peeled out while my engine was still cold(jerk behind me honked!) and my idle shot up 1500 higher than it should have been. The whole ride home it was idling at 3000rpm's. It usually idles at 1500(its a convert so the tach is off) but it eventually started coming down. It felt as if something was giving gas to the car even when i had my foot off the pedal. I sprayed it down with carb cleaner and it seemed to help alittle but it still idles higher than normal. Then tonight it was hesitatingbadduring accleration around 3000 rpms, it ended up stalling when i when i took it out of gear. I got it started and took it home with relatively no problem, but im still pretty suspect. U guys think its just a sensor i can change or am i better off buying a new carb?
First you should make sure there is nothing binding in the throttle linkage, and that the throttle valves are closing fully. If your car has an auto tranny and cruise control, make sure that the TV and cruise control cables are not binding. Also look for stupid things, like the floor mat sitting on the gas pedal.
By the way, when somebody blows the horn behind you, instead of taking off like a raped ape, do like NYC taxi drivers do, open the window & flip them the bird of paradise. LOL
