Headlights turn on and off at random.
Hey guys,
1991 Camaro RS 305 TBI
I have been trying to fix my headlights. I got a new headlight switch, the old one was definitely bad, didn't turn on my interior lights at all. So the new switch turns everything on, but after a while of running my headlights go off, then a few sec / mins later, they come back on for a couple secs / mins, then go off again. And this continues indefinitely... Any ideas?
Is it wiring? I have heard that there is a breaker in the light switch that could be keeping it from getting too hot, I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Have you tried flicking your brights on and off, or seeing if the headlights still go off when the brights are on? My old 91 would act up once in a while, the low beams would go off when switching off the brights. Then if I flicked again to bright-low, they would go on. I knew it was the hi/low switch (mounted on the steering column down low), but it was too "once in a while" and didn't make it to the top of my priority list.
is it just the headlights, or is it all the lights including parking lights and interior lights? the grounds for the headlights are not of the best from the factory, a self tapping screw into the core support. check them as well as the plugs on the headlights for corrosion or burnt wiring. i dont remember if theyre on a circiut breaker but i think they are. also, an old breaker can heat up quicker and shut off
Okay, thanks for all of your response. I have fixed it, turned out that the switch breaker was bad, replaced the headlight switch and it works great.
Thanks again. I took the time to clean everything and make sure all grounds and connections are good as well.
