Default engine swap

hi guys sorry I am a newbie never worked with GM cars before. Hence I have a question. I have just bought an 85 camaro with a shot unfixable engine. The engine block is cracked. I was just wondering can I swap that v6 for the v8 ?? Any suggestions on better engines that could be installed on that car would also be greatly appreciated . Its a standard do I want to keep the standard tranny.
Many thanks.

if you swap to a v8, the factory trans for the v6 wont bolt up. the bell housing has a different bolt pattern. and almost any engine is better than the 2.8 v6

If the tranny unbolts from the bell house then you would just need a V8 type bell house. Check ebay, swap meets, Craigslist....

2.8's are really **** in my opinion and basically worthless...I mean my friends 92 Lumina has a 3.1 in it
