Default dual exhaust

I have a set of 40 series flowmasters, I am being told that if you want to run true dual exhaust that you raise the floor behind the front seats, and make room for them or else they will scrap on the ground. Has anyone ever heard of that? OH ya the car isn't lowered either!

i have an 87 camaro, that the custom exhaust shop said there will be not much of a problem at all making true duals. my car has tires that are a little fatter, so the car sits slighty lower above the ground, and you have to sacrafice muffler choice. you can get a big oval case muffler, you have to buy straight through muffler like a moroso spiral flow or dynomax bullet. if you use true dual 2.5inch or smaller, then you will have no problems at all, there is no reason for going 3 inch on a small block, youll probably loose more power then gain. the only catch is the two pipes have to follow each other on one side of the car, and an x-pipe is a must. also, long tube headers make true duals easier on this generation camaro, and make a lot more power then short tubes. the exhaust shop is charging me 800 dollars to do the exhaust, and that includes them buying cats, but keep in mind that you will save atleast 300 dollars putting the headers in yourself, i did.

no unfortunately, the exhaust has ot be custom made. heres the design that the exhaust shop can do with my exhaust, i drew myself please complement my art pad drawing lol. if you choose to have this exhaust done, print this picture and give it to the shop, it will speed things up a bit. remember, install the headers yourself, it will save a lot of money. if you get long tube headers, to put them in, you have to take off the windshield wiper motor, and entire master cylinder, the 4 bolts are under the steering shaft in teh firewall, also you have to take off the one motor mount on the side you are putting the header in, and lift the motor up with a jack. if oyu buy the short tube headers, none of this needs to be done, they pretty much slide right in.

its getting done this monday. well i am getting huge power gains, because i am going form stock log exhaust manifolds, and a single 2.5 inch exhaust, with a restrictive muffler, to 1 3/4" long tube headers, true dual 2.5 inch wiht x pipe, and 2 race mufflers. i will probably be getting up to a 30 horsepower increase, and buttloads of torque. my old exhaust was worse then stock. from a decent flowmaster single exhaust, you can get 10-20 horsepower, and 15-25 ft lbs of torque, really depending on what your coming form. it is not necessary to go over 2.5 inch duals, going 3 inch will actually hurt performance, its only good on a small block if its supercharged or turboed.

ok ill te ll you exactly what i did, i bought long tube headers for $140. i also bought two mufflfers for 40 dollars a piece, i also bought headers gaskets and better bolts for 40 dollars. i put the headers in myself and saved 318 dollars. now the custom exhaust shop is charging me 900 dollars, i talked it down to 800 dollars. all i have to do is bring it up there, and give them the mufflers, they are supplying me with the cats.

ok so in total, i am being charged 800 dollars for labor and them buying the cats.

if i had not put in teh headers myself, i would be charged $1113.00

I also saved money by buying my own mufflers, so the exhaust shop didnt have to order them.

overall, teh more oyu buy yourself, the more you save. i bought my own headersgaskets mufflers and hader bolts, installed the headers, and i am being charged 800 d ollars, for true dual 2.5inch, with an x-pipe.
