Distributor squeakong/ needing replacement help

Default Distributor squeakong/ needing replacement help

all I have to do is Mark on the distributor where the rotor is pointing, where the rotor points when it comes out for easy installation and transfer those markings onto the new rotor and put it in right? also mark where the distributor is on the manifold for timing purposes.

Rotor should only go on one way. Make sure you have the engine at TDC compression stroke with the rotor pointed at #1 and timing mark on balancer at pointer when you pull it out. New dizzy may not drop all the way in until you turn the motor over a little bit to engage the oil pump drive. Once it's in all the way and seated on the intake before you clamp it down spin it back around to TDC compression stroke again and check that it's in the right position, it's easy to get off a tooth or two first try.

If i put the new distributor in , the exact same way i took the old one out, i dont need to worry about top dead center or any of that , correct?

Correct, no need to worry about setting the engine to TDC. Before you remove the distributor, make a note of which cylinder the rotor is pointing to, based on the distributor cap/plug wire orientation. As long as you have the new rotor pointing to the same cylinder that the old one was pointing at, you're good. You're still going to want to check your timing once the engine is running though, you can bet you'll be off a few degrees one direction or the other.

Hey camaro69, should I lube the distributor at all before install?

No need, recirculating engine oil lubes the distributor
