Does Anyone Know How Many Splines Are On The Axle Of An 85 IROC With A 7.62? Will The Same Carrier Fit In A 7.5 And A 7.62? Would I Come Out Better Changing The Whole Rearend As Opposed To Just The Carrier. I Can Get A Used Posi Rearend For 100.00 Bucks. Trying To Make Up My Mind. Sick

 

1985 model rears had 26 spline axle shafts. Any 10-bolt Limited Slip carrier up 1988 will have the spline count. 1989 model was the change over to 28 spline shafts, but it was hit and miss depending on the rear still had 26 splines. Also the 7.5 & 7.62 dia dr gears are interchangeable (no difference between them). Just make sure what you are buying, you do mot want to downgrade to a 2-series carrier. A complete rear swap is no big deal and it might be easier then setting the pinion depth & backlash.
