Default differential question

my Camaro has the GU4 open carrier 3.08, I'd like to put in a GU5 or 6 G80,

my question is, I have a 1999 and a 2002 S10 Blazer 4x4's sitting out in the yard, one has a GU6 G80 in the rear,

will the differential and ring/pinion fit in my rearend?

I figured since both are V6 it would hold up to the Camaro if it will fit..

It depends. If one of those S10s have a 7.5in ring gear and is 28 spline (most likely), then yes, it will fit in the Camaro. But if they are 8.5/8.6 ring gear or have more splines on the axle shafts then no, it will not fit. From what I can gather, only the ZR2 models came with the 8.5 and rest were 7.5 in. Best to double check with someone who knows the S10s a little better.

Edit: Also note that chances are the gears out of the S10 are lower resulting in a few less mpgs (depending on how much of difference there is) but better acceleration.

if you was closer i would offer my old rearend with 373 gears. its got a blown posi clutch so one wheel drive would match good with 6.

I live where it snows like hell so I want both tires turning during the winter..

that's my reason for wanting to switch

If you're doing it for winter reasons, buy a locker and winter tires. Best combo but it isn't cheap.

went to the wrecking yard, he had quite a few late 90's and early 2000's S10 Blazers, I found one that had GU6 G80 in the rear so I asked him to pull the carrier with the ring and pinion, they just delivered it $35..
