No such casting as 3978010. 3970010 was a widely used 350 block from 1969-80, and was also used for the 1969 302 Z28 engine.

3970010 was also used for some 2 bolt 327 truck engines. Good block. Is it a 2 or 4 bolt main? It could be a 4 bolt 302 block (doubtful), 2 or 4 bolt 350, or a 2 bolt 327

2 bolt main the mains look like 4 bolt mains minus the extra holes just round cast marks where they would be so i may take the mains an the block and have them drill on it a bit to make it 4 bolt

i was told it was an ooold camaro engine..hoping not a 302....im wanting a 350 block to eventually bore .60 over or so

so how do i find out if its a 302 or 327 or 350 without measuring it as i dont have any thing to measure with and i dont have a way to transport it currently to get it measured

well i found the engine code its v0505chw...
The engine was built in flint may 5th 1975 with 155 orig hp
the partial vin is 15n602981 which from what i found it was shipped to the norwood, ohio assembly plant of 1975

now for the heads.

one says GM 8T and the other says GM7
they both have this number on them : 376450 and J287 or J28T cant tell

well just found this
376450= year:75-81 engines used on:262/267/305 60cc chamber

now why would someone use 305 heads on a 350 block bored .60 over?

Could have been a number of reasons. Maybe they needed new heads, and had those sitting around. Or, some guys like to use 305 heads for an easy way to bump the compression. But the 1.84 intake valves are more restrictive than what you can get in the aftermarket, unless your heads were machined for larger valves. A buddy of mine has an older Vette with 305 HO heads on his 350 and it goes like a raped ape. If a builder knows what they're doing, the "right" 305 heads can be made to work very well.

well the intake valves are nearly the same size as the exhaust give or take 1-2 mm the heads are trashed and so is the crank.

the heads were new when p/o got em but he left everything to the engine in the rain including the heads they are now rusted so bad the valves are "welded" in by rust i may just give it all back and start fresh with another 350 block possibly late 70s 4 bolt truck engine like the 350 i had in my 78 silverado... such a durable and powerful motor when i bored it .60 still using the original quadrajet, heads,crank,cam,valves,headers. it would burn all 4 wheels and i had 33in mickey thompson superswampers......i miss that truck
