clanging noise
I have an 83 camaro, when i am on it and it shifts it makes a loud clanging noise, and kinda hops a little, it feels like its coming from the right rear, when i am cruising on the highway and turn right at anything over 60 and it feels the rear end wants to slide out, it wobbles back and forth but the wheels are planted to the ground, I have replaced the u joints in the driveshaft, and have looked under the car and cant see anything that is bent? Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be.
disk or drum brakes? clang noise would indicate something hallow or lose. check axles to make sure they are not moving in and out. not sure how the 83 axles are held in place. the old 63 impala (back in 75)i had lost an axle. found that the bolts on the axle had come lose. tire and all came out a foot or so. never came off just out. we cracked up for a long time. no posi so the car wouldnt move. i think you have the pins inside at the end of the shaft. otherwise make sure your lug nuts are torqued down. while your under there check the sway bars and such to make sure their secure and holding the rear unit in place so to not allow sideways movement. could also be a shock clanging on the exhaust. thats all i can think of.
bang, clunk, and grind mean gears. i guess a gear noise could reverberate to the driveline and make a clang.

have a look at the control arms. AND check the lug nuts and studs. had a friend give me this EXACT symptoms. told him to wait till i could get over and check it out, he didnt, lost a wheel going down the highway and messed up his mustang pretty bad.
you may be missing one of the pinion gears teeth in there and when it gets to it it jumps to the next. you should be on the right track.
drain it take the cover off and look around also could see what you get with a magnet from the bottom of the case.
