Its that 'off the line' snap Im going for. Ive got a healthy 350 in her now (well, other than the oil consumption issues but nevermind) but when I pound on her from a stop, the first 5 seconds are very unimpressive. But 350RS said it will make me a rocketship so now Im happy.....

black87- I plan on doing the 'spin and count' when I go to pick up the rearend today or tomorrow. Just to make sure Ive got it right, the yoke should turn 3.73 times for every 1 turn of the wheels, correct?
I am not a beliver in your spin and count method. Have them pull the cover and check the internals (Stamping on OD of ring gear or count the teeth). Also check the Limited slip for $400 + I want to do this checking and not end up with a 2:73 ratio. There info on the year is a tip off. My opinion....

I called the junkyard. I was mistaken on the year, it is an 86, not an 87. So this would make sense that it is a 3.73. The guy at the yard assured me that it is indeed a 3.73 and that I could check it when I get there. The spin and count method was dead on for my 2.77. What should I be looking for in the way of a stamp on the ring gear? You said check the limited slip.......how I do that?

Well that sounds a little bit better (10-bolt 3:73 were a option that year). The stamping is located on the ring gear OD and should be 41:11 = 3:73 ratio. As for the Limited Slip just verifly it has one, because it was a option and all 3:73 cars may not of had it. picture of the unit.

As long as I spin the yoke or hub and both wheels turn in the same direction I have a posi, correct? Im just worried that Im not gonna have the opportunity to pull the cover, dump the fluid and look for a stamp and inspect the unit. Although for 400 bucks I probably should take a look inside, huh?

i havent had any trouble with yards around here. MOST of the time what they sell is what they described on the phone. If i were you though, i would most deffinatly look inside yourself before you leave. Tell them if you cant look inside, you want the money back in full. End of story, bottom line. take it or leave it type of situation.

Well, you guys are right. Im gonna open it up and tell em I wanna look for chipped teeth and such. 400 bucks is FAIR price, its not like they are giving it away, so I deserve to inspect it. There are VERY few junkyards up here that have anything decent in them, so a find like this is kind of rare. Lets just pray for good weather and a quick swap job.

There is no U bolts! Its trailing arms. there is the bolts on the trailing arms, shocks, pan hard rod, the brace next to that, brake hose, e brake cables, sway barand the drive shaft. I swapped mine faster than it took me to type this.
yeah your right mike, i was thinking of my blazer when i typed this, where the rear is connected thru u bolts on the leaf springs.
