Default Car Won't Start

1992 Z20
305 Manual

Every once in a while my car decides it doesn't feel like starting.
I've replaced the starter, the solenoid, the battery, and the clutch switch.

When I hit the clutch and turn the key, nothing happens. No satisfying click. The voltage drops negligably, almost unnoticably.

Just today I noticed, however, that an orange "SECURITY" glows so long as the ignition key is in the on position, instead of turning off like it should. Does anyone have any ideas?

There's a little orange wire under the steering collumn coverwith a black connector in the middle you should be able to see it without taking off anything but the kickplate under there. Make sure that wire is connected securely. Oh, and it should run towards the clutch pedal.

I had the same problem with my 92 rs. If the security light comes on, turn the car off, dont touch anything for 5 minutes and then it will start up again. I took my car to the local shop and for 60 dollars he bypassed the vats system somehow...i dont know how i didnt ask, but I havent had that problem since.

Well

Waiting for it to start has usually worked in the past

But this past week it hasn't been working. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, no difference. Then, suddenly, three hours later it might work. Or it might not.

However, I did find out the the orange wire has been clipped. I believe it's been redirected to my aftermarket security system. I have a good feeling that the wires were not soldered together and are now tarnished, so that current has trouble flowing through them. Tonight or tomarrow I'm going to check all of the connections.

Thanks for your help.

In case anyone's keeping track:

I played with a number of wires under my steering wheel and found one which disconnects my alarm system entirely. So far, with the system off, my car has been starting perfectly. I'll put in a simple switch to turn off my alarm setup whenever it doesn't want to let me start. Thanks again for the help.
