Backfiring when Step on gas and wont get any power please help

Exclamation Backfiring when Step on gas and wont get any power please help

the car wasnt backfiring when i got it but the a friend notice the distributor cap wasnt tightened down and he moved it around we got it back the right timing (as far as we know) and tightened it down and changed the spark plug wires but not the car will back fire when i press gas in neutral and in drive trying to accelerate also doesnt get very much power. what could this be, any ideas?

the only thing you probably could do is triple check the timing again and make sure your plug wires are in the right spots

^^^ yep, sounds like a missplaced plug wire. or lose cap could have gotten damaged during the run.

Oh, so you used one of those "guess" type of timing apparatuses, eh? Yeah, those are deadly accurate!!

no i used a timing light for the timing

The distributor cap should have nothing to do with timing...sounds as if your friend knows enough to be dangerous

New distributor cap and plug wires in the right order should fix the problem. Let us know.

make sure you install the jumper wire as needed to correctly set the base timing, otherwise you are just hurting yourself
