hey i got this 88 with a 350 motor and a 4spd auto. thing is it only goes into reverse if i put it in drive first. this is probably a general transmissions question but any input would be greatly appreciated.

 

try getting the fluid flushed and the filter changed, if that doesnt help, you may be looking at getting the valve bodies done or a rebuild, but, the 700r4 isnt too expensive to get rebuilt.

 

That's funny: my tranny will only move the car in reverse! I have a '91 with the 700r4, and after being rebuilt it started leaking tranny fluid at a horrible rate, and now it will only go in reverse, doesn't move at all in any of the forward gears.

Is the 700r4 worth rebuilding? I've heard that it is possible to swap it for an old turbo 350 if you get an adapter . .. something about them being different lengths? which is a better option?
