I tried a search of the forum, but cannot find any topics on this. I am looking to swap out my stock 1998 tranny (LS1) with a 6-speed auto. I cannot find anything online, wit the exception of the T56. I don't want a manual because of the logistical issues I would run into. If anyone has any advice....?

 

well 4 speed was used in 4th gens for the automatics, i have only heard of a 6 speed auto in the new camaro, and unless gm used the 6 speed auto on another vehicle, which im sure they did, you would have to get one from there, and thats only if its compatible with your engine, if it will bolt up or not.my question is why did you want a 6 speed auto ?

 

The 6L50 is a 6spd auto used in Cadillacs. The 6L80 is used in some cadillacs, holdens, GMCs, Hummers and the G8. And then theres the Allison 1000 but thats used in trucks and what not. Sounds like alot of fabrication and money to me if its possible.

 

well whats the auto trans thats used in the CTS-V? that would bolt up to your ls1. never mind, i guess the new ones come with an auto, but the older ones are all t56's

 

the 09 CTS-V comes with a 6L80.

 

i can swap trannys with you from my stock 02 camaro z28 auto to your t56 manual.

 

he wants a 6speed auto not a 4 speed.

 

if you drag race why would you want a 6spd?

 

Don't really see the advantage you get from doing the swap, even if you managed to find one.

 

It would be too much money/work to do the manual. and I HATE the stock auto tranny's. Also, it is going out on me, so I figured I might as well put in something better anyway. but again, I dont have the money for a manual conversion
