Default 90 Camaro ignition/chip key issues

PLEASE HELP!!Recently purchased a 90 Camaro in which the steering column had been switched with a Trans Am steering column (not sure which year). The owner did not know what the issue was but when the chip key is in the car turnsover but the fuel pump doesn't get started. I have purchased a new ignition and key b ut it had no chip so it didn't fix the problem. A friend has a 91 Camaro in which he will give me the ignition, steering column, etc...Is this something that can be done???

Buy a blank key that has the same value chip as the original key that came with your car. Cut the new key with the same pattern as that of the key used on the replacement parts.

Look at the part of the lock on the Firbird column. Is it flat where you put the key in or is it dished? If its flat then that is the kind that uses the vats key. Then check and see if the wires are hooked up at the bottom of the column for it. And this is assuming that your security light is staying on. The problem may not be the vats like every one always blames.
