Got spark? when was the last time it ran? and if it ran and you wrenched on it, what exactly did you do before it would not fire.

i'm gonna have to check the spark plugs tomorrow. i went for about a 2 hour drive, started a few times after i got there and then just before i was going to go home it turned on but died after about 30 seconds. ended up spraying some starting fluid and had one last 30 second start up and now it just keeps crankin but not turning over

Careful with that starting fluid. But if you sprayed it inside and it did not want to even try then there is a problem with your spark. You can have the ignition modules tested at places like autozone. Make sure you are getting power to your coil.

Sounds like your magnetic pickup is going out in your distributor. Which you would need to check it w/ a ohm meter. But that is only if you are not getting any spark or only short time period of spark. Check your coil too, see if it is getting fire. But if your coil is good ... then more than likely it is your pickup going out in the distributor. Just out of curiousity is it TBI or TPI .
