Default 700r4 vs th350/th400 ? 3.2.3 vs 3.7.3

Hey, I am looking at what would suit my camaro for proformance better , the 700r4 I have in it or swaping out to a th350 , also would 3.7.3 gears suit better

I have a 1983 camaro with a 350 from a 1972 camaro ss bored .30 , high compression pistons , comp cam, comp rollers, edle brock street pro aluminum heads , all edle brock top end , 700r4 4 speed with over drive, and rebuilt 3.2.3 rear end , still dosnt have the kick I'm looking for .

If you are looking at swapping out your 700R4 for a TH350 you will be moving in the wrong direction for "kick".

The first gear in a 700R4 is significantly lower then in a TH350. Second gear is lower as well. Third gear is the same and the TH350 does not have an overdrive. If you want my humble opinion your 3.23 gears are your limiting factor. I dont believe that 3.73s will solve your problem either. My camaro had a 350 .030 over 10.5:1 pistons and all that jazz, i had a TH350 with 3.73. With the three speed in my car i wouldnt wanna go any lower then that. If it were me, i would go with the 700R4, change out to 4:10 or 4:11 depending what is available for your rear end. The other thing i would do is give your cam specs to a transmission shop and get a high performance high stall converter. Gears and a convertor will change the entire attitue of the car. As i said i would not stop at 3:73s with a 4 speed.

Now as for my 572 i am putting in, i changed out the TH350 to a 4L80 and put 3.73s in the new rear end. I only did this because i am worried with the power my 572 makes i would never hook up, my 350 didnt have to many issues hooking up the 3.73s

Yeah like i said, its all just my opinion but with that 700R4 i wouldnt put 3.73s in it. Speaking about your trans, what is a racing kit? Might be worth while to find out exactly what they plan on doing to produce "A racing kit". Make sure that if you are paying the money you dont get ripped off. Its easy to do a couple little internal modifications to make a car shift real hard, that doesnt make it good.

Jesus, your in calgary. Where are you taking your transmission? Im in okotoks and know someone whos excellent at them and is honest too. Let me know if you need an supplier for a transmission. I trust the guy a ton as ive known him for 20 years, builds a nice trsnsmission at an extremely fair price.

373 gears are a good middle range. not to low and not to high.

He does both but your better off to just give him a call, even if it is just for some suggestions. He specializes in full billet 48RE dodge deisel transmissions but i have seen many, many TH350s, TH400s, 700r4s, 4L65s and 4L80s roll through the door.
