300-350HP on stock tranny
If you havent read my other post, i may be able to get a 300 or 350HP 350 for anywhere from 2000-3000 bucks complete and installed which is a steal. I know this will bolt up to my 700r4 tranny, but will my stock tranny and rear end be about to handle this amount of horsepower and torque?
Ok thanks, but what about the rear end? Also if i wanted to make sure nothing would happen to the rear and tranny what types of mods would i do to stregthen the tranny(without getting a new tranny)and rear?
Actually the shift kits decrease the life of the tranny. The stock shift is softer putting less stress on the components in the tranny. Shift kits which smack gears harder will put more stress on the parts each time you shift. The hard shift will put morestress on the parts and fatiguewhich is more damaging than some slip which is countered with transmission fluid for lubrication etc. I don't think you will have to worry about it though.

IMOP the storck tranny will not hold 400 hp especially if its a 700r4. You will have to get it built. And that gets pretty expensive. As for hold 300 hp it might depends on the current condition of the tranny. If its not slipping and the shifts feel firm mate it up and hope for the best.
actually the 700R4 is a relativley cheap transmission to build up. i would reccomend getting the kevlar band, redo the valve body, shift kit...and theres something else you can do. I had a GTA with a built 700R4 and it handled everything i could throw at it. bone stock those trans are junk. IMOP
the cheap shiftimprover kitscause the trans to slam into the next gear becuase you do away with several springs in the valve body. a real shift kit does not eliminate any springs , but comes with larger servo's and acumulators to firm and quicken the shifts , not slam them into the next gear.
