1991 firebird for 400.00 ( is it worth it)
im looking at a 1991 pontiac firebird with a 3.1 v6 and a 5 speed manual tranny that has 232,000 on the body for 400.00 as a project for my adult auto tech course im taking next year. . heres all thats wrong with it that i know:
needs a bell housing and possibly new clutch because the owner put a clutch in and a bolt fell into the tranny ( he didnt see that) and when he started it , the bolt shot through the bell housing.
the window on the drivers side doesnt stay up , when i opened the door it fell down almost all the way into the door.
when i opened the door, the rear floor panels had about 1/2-3/4 an inch of water in them.
Interior and dash pad needs completly redone.
windshield needs replaced.
the motor looks nasty, might not run. as soon as i get a camera i will take some pics for you guys
motor and transmission i wanna replace, cause id like to put a 5.0 in it .
my question is to you guys, with all the things i told you that is wrong with the car, would it be worth it for that price of 400.00?

RE: 1991 firebird for 400.00 ( is it worth it)
bell houseing and all that isnt a big deal if your looking to put a new motor and tranny in it anyway. That bellhousing wouldnt bolt up to the new motor and you dont know for sure if it would work with your tranny anyway,,, so theres two problems solved
that window could just be a stripped gear somehow, new motor MAYBE and it would be fixed
the pads will be costly, not to bad, but costly
windshields are about 250 installed (around here anyway)
as for that water... is it a t-top? if it is chances are the stripping is shot, it happens a lot. thats a little over 100 bucks new and you can install that easy.
sounds like you may have a good project car on your hands, but watch your step, have a look at them floor boards if it had that much water sittin in it, could be almost rusted away

i was also wandering, i kinda dont like the front end on it , so i was wandering if the nose /bumper off of a late 80's firebird could fit on it .
