Electric fan for 78 350.
78 Camaro with 350. Radiator is between 20 and 21 inches, pretty square (versus rectangular). I have an under $80 budget. Pretty stock setup, plenty of power for me, I'm willing to go a smidge over stock application but I'm not willing to spend over $200 for a 3000 cfm, 16in fan...
Any parts recommendations or stock requirements of size and cfm will be appreciated. I have the thermostat controller.

The best bang for the buck electric fan is a ford taurus 2 speed fan,You can get them from the junk yard for around $20 and they move a massive amount of air,way higher than you will find in an aftermarket fan.I put one in my car and with the hood up,if you stand back by the door of the car,it moves enough air to blow your hair back haha. Here's a pic of it,i put an aluminum shroud on with it,but they are still very good fans even without the shroud.
Oh I see what you are saying about cooling without a shroud. That fan is practically the size of the radiator.
I figured 10 inchs would probably the minimum because the cops had me tow a late 60s mustang with an 03 Cobra SVT supercharged motor, no hood, dragshoot...he was waiting for his plates in the mail. He had a fan that was about the size of the steering wheel.
I would have an 18 inch with a shroud built in for $47 but summits web posting was wrong, I received mechanical fan blades. I asked the phone rep where is the one I ordered and all he could recommend was the 3000 cfm, 16 in for $280. I asked him what is the stock cfm and said no lower than 2000 cfm (ya I bet, for $200). I figured I would keep the controller and do some research.

With a standard aftermarket fan controller, you could hook it up to run just on low or just on high. These fans are i think about 16"-17" without the shroud.Alot of people get a fan controller from a volvo from the junk yard to run the fan on both speeds,i bought a controller from hollister road, but when i first put the fan in i used a regular flex a lite controller and had the fan wired just on low.Even on low these fans put out i believe around 3500 cfm or so,on high they put out well over 4000 cfm.Even now with the new controller that will run at either speed,it never gets hot enough to kick it in on high. The exact setup i have now that works really well,is the hollister road controller, the taurus 2 speed fan,and a dual temp switch in the manifold that is actually made for a bmw.Very reliable setup, and all of it cost less than a standard quality aftermarket fan.Like i said the fan should be around $20 or so,the hollister road controller was like $40 with relays and all wiring, and the bmw switch was right around $30.So for less than $100 you could have a very good setup that will cool just about anything,i've seen several people run this fan on big block cars with no problems. If you go to find one of these fans, the thing to watch for is there was 2 different fans used on the taurus, there was a single speed fan that doesnt move alot of air, then there is the 2 speed which like i said moves alot, the way to tell the difference is by the wiring, the single speed on has 2 wires and the 2 speed has 3 wires running to it.

Gotcha with the 3 pole for two speeds. Any perticular year or is the bubbly style from the late 90's to mid 00's. My mom had a 96 and my friends mom had 2000. Both ended up with bad transmissions and my mom had the auto 5 speed.
I believe they had them from early to mid 90's on up,i want to say maybe 93-94 up if i'm not mistaken. That doesn't surprise me about the trannies going bad,i think these fans are about the only good part ford ever came out with haha.
About 30 bucks got me the fan at pick and pull. All the taurus there were 3L v6 with duel fans, PnP charges more for two tiny fans versus 1 big fan. Good thing I poke around on the web. The application was for a ford areostar but it wanted the same big two speed fan. The site said lincoln mark viii with v8 is the same. Low and behold, thats what I found. I even walked out with a hood for the 78. Two guys that were just as oaky as I were. They saw the hood and fan and said a ford fan like that on a 350 is perfect.
Good deal,$30 is a good price. It's funny alot of people over pay for the fan by getting it from ebay and the people that are selling them there have caught on to how good these fans are,so the same fan you just spent $30 on,people are paying $80-$100 for on ebay just because they dont think to go look at the local junk yard haha.
