Default Car will not start!

I just dropped a new chevy 350 into my camaro. Every time I try to start the motor though, it backfires a ball of fire through the carb!!! Compression is good in all cylinders. All valve lash is correct. Could it be a timing problem?? Please help!

if youve had the distributor out then i would suspect that its in there 180 off. if not i would say you could have some plug wires in wrong. take the cap off and check for a broken rotor.
