Trans Problem
Just rebuild my th350 with a Hughes performance kit and B&M shift kit. We put it on the dyno, reverse, drive and 2nd manual all work great, but there is no manual first. I get all three gears in drive with good ups and downs.. anyone else ever have this problem?
Tough one to disgnose since we weren't there when it was assembled. Hopefully you got all the check ***** back in their correct location, and the exact number of clutches in each pack that came out.
It sounds like the 1st gear pack is too tight, or the 1-2 accumulator piston may have a leak or a crack. If it's not the piston or check ***** you'll probably be pulling the trans again.

That is the tough part, 1st works when its put in drive so that rules out the accumulator and clutch packs, installed a B&M shift kit so it only has 2 of the 4 check *****, Gonna re check all the manual linkage this week
Yeah, if you have too many clutches or steels in the pack (more than it had), 1st gear in automatic mode would be affected. A shifter/linkage issue is all that comes to mind.
If you switched out the trans and still have the same problem, then it's most likely a linkage adjustment. Need to disconnect the cable at the trans arm. Then put the trans in park and then put shifter also in park. Then see if the linkage matches up. If it doesn't, adjust it until it drops in place easily. Disconnect the linkage end again, and put trans in 1st. Then shifter in 1st, and double check that it still lines up, and you should have it.
