Default New tranny and shifter problems HELP!

I have an 81 Camaro with a 350 and a 700R4 Transmission I bought a B&M Pro Ratchet Shifter and I can not for the life of me get the shifter cable set up right...I'm using the appropriate shift lever on the tranny and the correct hole in the lever as prescribed by the instructions...I even followed the instruction on how to adjust the cable...and it still doesn't shift right. The shifter goes from park to nothing to reverse neutral then 4th gear and completely skips drive....I'm going crazy I've been trying for weeks to get this right and nothing is working....any one have any advice for me?

Probably u did, but u change the gate for OD. Sound like ur gate is on 3 gear trans and not 4. The cable adjust for small amounts so is like a Fine tune, but u are jumping gears !

Did you look over the instructions carefully? On page 2, step 11, it says to remove the 3 speed limiter pin. And on page 3 it shows where the 4 speed uses the forward hole on the transmission lever. Check it all again and make sure you didn't miss anything.

Thanks for all the help. I did remove the limiter pin. I got the shifter adjusted so it hits all the gear Reverse thru drive just fine....no hickups....but Park doesn't exactly engage, the rear wheels spin and theres a clicking sound when they do....this is only when I put the shifter in park with the shift cable hooked up to the tranny. I'm not driving it and I've disconnected the cable and put it in park manuall for now....any ideas?

You do have the cable attached to the correct lever hole on the trans?
That clicking sound is the park pawl just barely engaging into the notched wheel inside the trans.
Is there anything limiting more forward movement on the shifter itself (something that can be altered that is)? Do you have any pictures of the shifter, with the cover off?

It's a plain old b&M Pro Ratchet Shifter...simply and ordinary...upon reading all of the instructions....as in every single sheet of paper given to me...the cable is in the correct hole...the problem I see is that the lever on the transmission moves a total of about an inch from reverse to park....too drastic for my shifter. I've done everything right from what I can tell...I have confidence in that. Some stuff just dont' sit right...is my tranny just a red headed step child or am I an idiot....i hope it's not the ladder.

and by the way...the shifter itself is great... perfect equal shifts with each movement in either direction. so my guess is my tranny is an dip shiznit
