The "Slow but Steady" '78 Project Build
I dont know if rushing him will kill the performance. I am kind of that way. I work the best under pressure so I subconsciously push things back until I have to work my *** off. But I usually do great work this way. Tony as well as myself have done our respective jobs for 20 yrs and I can do my work in my sleep. I bet he could spend a day or two and pop out a masterpiece.
Thanks UB. I wish some would give me more motivation to get mine done. I did work on it ALL day Saturday. I finished blocking my firewall. I can prime it as soon as the weather gets warm enough.
OK so now we're pushed back until Sunday, driving home all day Monday so the kids can be back in school on Tuesday. I'm just going to give him the time he says he needs as to hopefully avoid any issues with them getting done properly. What I'll never understand is how the original comments about being able to do them in 4-5 days have now turned into double that. While I agree that some of my best work (on pretty much anything) gets done under pressure, I'm not so sure Tony feels the same way. I'm just DONE listening to the excuse du jour about why it's going to take him longer than it was going to the day before. I'm upset because my kids have been so excited to get on the road and I have to keep telling them that it's going to be ANOTHER day later when we can go. Bottom line here is I want this to be over with, with a set of heads that are done right. Now, the intake won't be done in time so it'll have to get mailed back to me anyway. I'm curious how an intake can be port matched to a set of heads when the heads will no longer be there? I'm just sick over this.
Yes, UB, the trans did get painted in the dining room. There were tarps down, old blankets hung up around it and a series of fans venting out the window. I think I can still catch the faint smell of paint over a week later though.
My ex-wife will have to find her own paint fumes to sniff! It's too cold to be painting outside here still and I wanted it done in a bad way after taking so long to complete the rebuild. It's all done now.

I guess I haven't grown tired of the build yet Uncle Bob. I'll be 63 this fall and I can't imagine not building and working on cars. I have decided after 47 yrs. of riding motorcycles that I'll be selling mine this spring. Just don't have the urge to ride it anymore, and the wife doesn't want to either.
As for subframe connectors; I drove and raced my '71 Camaro for years without them. Even with the 427 it didn't tear the car apart as some people warned me it would. It did however rearrange the body gaps, and I had a lot of reworking and fitting gaps when I rebuilt the car a few years ago. I think they're a great idea for a performance built Camaro, but not a neccessity for every Camaro.

Friday morning, just got another call telling me NOT to drive down to TN to pick up my heads, they STILL won't be done! This is the 8th time this guy has been "sick" in the last 3 months. I only know a couple kinds of people that get sick that often. I've had one excuse after the next for the last 10 days, each time changing what he said the day before. No trip for my kids now that there's 2 days of spring break left. Gotta wonder what else he's hiding from me at this point? The way I see it, even if he hadn't touched the heads until this week, they should still be done by this weekend. There's something else going on that I don't know about yet, but I'll find out! Sorry this reads like a FB post and for the ranting, what an absolute nightmare!!
I agree. Even if he's the best head guy in the world, it's not worth the grief and frustration to you to wait much longer. I would probably make the drive myself and have a calm face to face talk with him. I also would get back the total depsoit. He owes it all back to you for making your life uncomfortable and having to retrieve your heads unfinished.
I wouldn't even know where to start to try and explain all the BS he's fed me in the last week. After I posted that yesterday, he had a miraculous recovery 90 minutes after he called me. Now he says that everything will be done for me on Sunday evening but, NO VIDEO of any work done to them. That's scary in itself right there. Not that I care about seeing videos anymore of course, but to just know that he didn't mess anything up or cut too many corners that I now know he's going to do. What is so bizarre about all of this is that this is the main/only reason I was driving down to pick up the heads was to be interviewed for his f'ing videos! I get another call about 2 hours later telling me to make sure I bring CASH when I pick them up also, not the personal check he told me was OK to bring in the beginning. Won't give me any type of receipt for the work done when I asked. Now I'm getting a stage 4 job, not stage 5 like I paid for? There's nothing I'd like more than to drive down this second and pick up my stuff (that is if they weren't sold to someone) and get my money back. There isn't a chance in hell of him giving me any money back, even if he still had it. So, as of now I AM driving down tomorrow morning to pick up my finished heads (and intake he says now) with the same quality of work that was promised in the beginning. There isn't a doubt in my mind that I'm being completely ripped off here...
