Slowly things are getting done. Weather here brought things to a halt, as I need to get wife's car in the shop, due to weather. But a few thing have gotten done. Motor is almost done, and old motor it out of the car. Old motor is being saved for the next project.

Cleaned up some wiring and will reroute some wire on new motor to clean thins up.

Well motor is installed, but haven't been able to work on it much as I messed up an ankle. So work has only been a little here and there. Biggest problem has been pulleys. I wanted Aluminum, but since the motor I took out of my car was from a 88 chevy, some things for some reason are just not matching up. Got most if it figured out though. First set of pulleys were from CFV and they would not line up at all, water pump pully and crank pulley were different. second set was from Skip White, PERFECT fit. I'm not happy with the power steering mount but It'll have to do for now. Mostly just have to hook up small things, install radiator, fluids, prime and start.

Pretty cool Bill! I wish the pulley suppliers could get their act together! I'm not sure what engine they use to spec up their systems, as I've yet to find a set that fit any SBC or BBC I've owned. Seems I always have to rework, and replace components of every set I've purchased. And it doesn't seem to matter if you buy spendy March, or cheap sets; they all have issues.

Funny. I ordered mine (water, crank, and alt) all from the cheapest supplier on Ebay. The alt is on a Mr Gasket cheap bracket. The power steering is stock. They all line up perfect. I also have a perfect align bracket for the type II pump I have. It slides in and out to adjust for misalignment. Again an Ebay special. The Summit alt bracket I have works with some alt. but others it needs the adapter that is in the March Pulley set up. It basically moves the mounting hole over.

The issues seem to magnify when you purchase a package, or "complete" pulley kit. I have had to use two kits often, or build/modify brackets, adjusters, etc. to make things align and adjust, or strengthen the mounts so things didn't flex under belt tension.
I'm seriously thinking about completely dumping the gilmer belt system on my BBC in the Falcon now. I've got it all solid after a ton of bracketry work, but getting tired of the powdery mess the belt makes as it wears. It leaves a fine dust all over the engine bay, and I'm constantly wiping the dust off every few weeks.

I never thought of belt wear. Snow mobiles do it here too. Glad you spoke up on that, I have been thinking of one on the pick up. When I got my pulleys I took them to work and put them on a surface plate. Of the three ( I dont remember the exact one) there was .001" of run out. The belt slots were cut true and clean. I paid less than $70 for all three too. I hate the fact its going to China but until we all as a group buy American I cant afford anything better.

Yeah, I've found the cogs on the belt and the pulleys seem to fit so closely that the belt wears in quickly, and makes a mess while doing so. Maybe it will eventually wear enough that it will stop when the sharp edges wear off, but not sure I'll wait to find out.
They really look cool, especially with the tunnel ram. Some people even think it's got a blower when they look through the wheelwells and see the gilmer belt, and that's fun. But I'm really getting tired of the mess.

Started the motor On sat. Primed it and then had a heck of a time getting the dist loc back in place. But motor fired right up so I checked a couple of things and then brought it up to 2500 for 20 min. Oil pressure was good and leveled off at 60lbs. And temp was good at 180. Here is a clip if it works. some back ground noise is echo in shop. had one little noise at end of break in,thinks its just a rocker out of adjustment.
