They are 1.6 ratio, need to see if they are going to work. Cam lift combined with these rockers is something like .522 intake .538 exhaust. And I suspect that vortecs generally get the spring pockets milled to allow .525 lift. But I don't know if the valves are stock length, what springs they are, just that it is all new, and built for this combination, only, I'm assuming probably for 1.5 ratio rockers.

Definitely pushing the limits with a cam that high, vortecs and 1.6 ratio. I'd be concerned with not only pushrod length, but valve length, check piston clearance also. The link Camaro 69 added is a great one for checking length. A rub pattern with machinist dye will tell you if the pushrods are the proper length to allow the roller tip to travel over the center during operation.

Well, I haven't really touched the car in a while. That seems to be about the way I go at it though, big bursts of progress every so often. My company seems to be in a stupid phase. Not sure what they are thinking or doing. They are down to one big job, they have most everyone at the company on this job, have laid alot of people off, and it would appear are not bidding anything else. This job will last until about the end of October and is far enough away that it requires us to stay the week there. I've worked about 3 days in the last two weeks, I can see all of next week for work, but not sure about after that. All of my free time lately has been spent working on my resume, making phone calls and doing the filing for unemployment thing to get the waiting week out of the way if I need it.

Can't really justify spending any money on the car until things are looking better. Although I do have plenty to do that would not require any. I could put the shift kit in the transmission and bolt it to the engine and get it in the car, pull the windshield out of the donor and get that in the car. I have also decided to paint it up in Black, so the paint job can be done in stages, the FIL wants to take a piece at a time to do bodywork on it, then he can take it to work to paint it in the booth and bake it, then it will just be a matter of putting the shell on a trailer and hauling it up there for paint, then home for assembly. It really is getting close.

Glad I'm retired. I spent the last year or two of work worrying about whether there would be work next week or not. I know the feeling of wanting to do anything, but not wanting to spend money in an unsure economy.
I would go ahead with anything that doesn't cost money, or you already have the parts for. It'll keep your mind off the work things.

It really just comes down to this: Get it over with already... I know he is trying to keep me going, he has invested alot of money and time into my training. I run a robotic pipe camera, and a GPS surveying setup, plus I've got the testing equipment down to a science. I know that he is keeping me around so he doesn't have to pay an outside company to do what I'm doing, and I'm sure that once he doesn't need me any more, it'll be the axe. I've got alot of friends in different companies, and the word on the street is that they are not bidding anything. I do know that they are involved in some lawsuit in regards to this job. I think that several million dollars were left on the table between their bid and the next one. If you ask me, that should have come back for a review from the engineering firm. So maybe they are not bidding anything until this job comes to a close... I really need to go back into Tech, Construction is so cut-throat and pushy. Maybe it is just Chicago though.

So today my goal is to do my yard work, and clean up the garage (again) so I can get back at it.

Sorry about your predicament. I have been conserving, not wanting to spend any big dollars as well. The auto industry is tied to the economy just like construction. Things seem ok at work but who knows.

Well, figured I would update this thing. Somehow I am still working. Although I see literally 1 to 2 weeks left tops. I'm hoping to land another job though, I'm not one to sit around.

As far as progress on the Camaro has gone, there has been none. I've been traveling for work, gone all week, so the weekends are usually spent playing catch up, or hanging out with the wife and kids. I have been still collecting parts though. I managed to pick up an entire weatherstrip kit, and some of the header bolts with the D ring and C clip that won't come loose. I've got that other part car, and have been selling some of that on Ebay and over on NastyZ28 trying to get some $$$ together to finish this engine. Still stuck at the point of needing to figure out my required pushrod length, and whether or not the 1.6 ratio rockers are going to work with my setup. I should have everything for that now though. Just need a time that can be uninterrupted to figure out how to do it.

I've got the solid engine mounts to put in, which requires me to pull the coils out again, which is fine, because I am sure I put them in upside down, and I would like to take the rubber isolators off of them and make sure that they are seated properly (I don't think I did that either). We've decided to go with the Z28 look, I like the flares and stuff. And that the car is going to be painted black. The FIL just told me yesterday to get him the fenders and some of the small stuff to take to work and do bodywork on, and have his painter start painting the stuff. MAYBE this thing could be rolling around this spring.

I'll continue posting up progress as there is any.

Sounds like progres to me Steve! Might not be hands on the car, but it's getting things done on it!

Steve, nice to see ya around. I don't see why the 1.6 won't work.

I'm using the 1.6 roller rocker on my new heads. I just put one rocker on int. and ext. of #1 cylinder with stock pushrod length. Bolted the head on with a few bolts and an old head gasket to hold it all. Rolled the engine through a complete cycle and checked contact area of roller on the valve stem. All looked great, so I pulled the head off and asembled with correct gaskets and adjusted it all.
