Tonite is date night, going to see Fast Five with my wife, daughter and her boyfriend. Hopefully I'll get to that wire wheeling tomorrow, or this weekend or so. I've got a bunch of copper to take in and scrap. $3.15 a pound right now, I've probably got 75-100 pounds I'd guess. Right to the Head Fund! lol

Painted up the engine black today. I think I'll like that better. I need to tidy up some of the overspray and all but it turned out ok. Cutting the tape sure is a fun job.

Also trying to decide what to do with the oil pan I got off of this thing. The engine decodes to a 1980 Chevy Truck, 350 4 bolt. I'd bet the pan is from the same. All I can see for numbers on it are 5121B (or E)? There may or may not be an S in front of the numbers, I can almost see one. The thing measures 7 1/2" tall. Pics of it:

I believe I'll be looking for a new one anyhow, at least newer looking. Not Chrome though. lol.

Now it would appear that I have to find a good match to keep in mind. I've got this block out of an 80 truck, which takes a different gasket or seal or something like that, and it goes in a 79 camaro. Going to go looking for a part. Right away on Ebay a polished aluminum one popped up HERE.
I like it, I believe the dipstick is wrong though, but the price is right. BUT, even though it isn't chrome, it is aluminum, so I am inclined to think it may have sealing issues too. I like the idea of the 7 qt kickout pans, but could see things getting crowded down there in a hurry with one.

I would grab that. Shouldn't have any issues sealing. I have a kicked out pan, mini starters help here. 60 bucks for mine on ebay.

Dipsticks should be the same, as the full mark in relation to the crank is the same regardless of the depth. But be sure that you have the correct pickup depth on the oil pump for the pan you're using!
The pickup needs to be measure from the block pan gasket area and compared to the depth of the pan. It should be within less than 1" off the bottom of the sump.

^^ I'll be sure to measure that, it has occurred to me in passing seeing the pump on the block with the pickup sticking out of it, but I haven't ever stopped and measured it. I also don't think that the pickup rotates on the tube on the one I have, but the tube does rotate in the pump. So it would not be adjustable.

With the block flipped over. I would put the pick up in the pump and rotate it so it was at a fiarly tall angle. Then set a 3/8" nut on the pick up and then set the pan on and push it down until was flush. You now have a perfect gap to the bottom of the pan. Then a tack to hold it right there.
