I've read similar to that, but, if the pickup doesn't rotate as well, does it matter if it were crooked?

Slightly crooked is not a problem, but if you can move the pickup by pushing down on it with the pan you've got a real problem! They're pressed in, and I've never seen one that would move that easy. Tack welding it in place is an old racer's trick to ensure it never comes off and starves the engine of oil.

Spent some time doing a bit of cleaning on my yucky oil pan, scrubbing it out with some PB Blaster and elbow grease, sanded it a bit and painted it high temp engine black a few coats. For now it looks fine on the engine. And really, it may just be fine for good, it is an oil pan. (Sometimes I need to kick myself).

Also, put a bit of time into doing a thorough cleaning of my double hump heads. I've decided to try and sell them. I stuck them on ebay, individually since they are not a matched set, although the specs are the same. I used some Marvins Mystery Oil, a tote, and some elbow grease, then some high pressure water, followed up with an air compressor, then some WD40. They turned out really nice. Hope that they sell.

This car is still in the early stages of being a project and there is no hurry to get this done. But it would be nice knowing what would fit. I am going to go and measure the overall length and the spring perch length and keep it with me so I know what to look for. Mainly my wanting to have a list would be to keep my eyes open for a wreck or something for cheap that could have a compatible rear end in it that I could buy and just junk.
your only option for a swap is a 1970 camaro 12 bolt, but those are a little hard to come by. you can swap in the 4 speed z28 rear ends since they came with 3.73's and posi. but you are just as likely to find one of them as you are a 12 bolt out of a 70 camaro. you can build a 8.5 ten bolt for about $1100, i have found everything to do it between moser and another site. Also moser does have everything to upgrade it including 30 splines, locker, gears, diff cover, and main cap stud kits for the rear end. I looked all this stuff up after asking pretty much the same thing and everyone told me the 8.5 10 bolt would be fine at this point.

I ended up buying a car with a rebuilt 4.10 posi unit in it, so I am good on that one now. I now think I should get a 700r4 trans though for the overdrive, the gearing will suck on the highway, but be fun on the street.

That sounds like a really good plan. The best of both worlds; a low set of gears and overdrive.

Your tires will love that super deep first gear tranny with the super deep rear gears.

Hey, I'm not in the Second Gen Forum anymore?! I never leave that place! I guess I'll just have to stay out here with all the 17 year olds.

Looking for ideas for some heads. Something around $700 give or take some, complete and assembled. Now, if it were beneficial to wait and save a bit more, I'm not really opposed to that either, but I'm not looking for any high winding car you can't go for a ride in.
Got some questions too, what is the benefit of intake runner size, is it the smaller the runner size, the lower your RPM horsepower peak is? Would like a 210cc be a good goal for a street motor, maybe a bit of track time, but for fun only. And; what works best for our cars, angle plug or straight plug? Or does it matter, is it the headers that have to work with the type of plug you have decided on?
