I have a 76. The inside door panels are pretty worn. I have not been able to find new and heard I could paint them. Has anyone here tried that? Where do I get the best paint?

Auto paint stores carry the special paint in spray cans, I bought some for my '78 GMC square body pickup a while back to touch up the kick panels etc. and it worked great but they were not that worn.
