Thanks for your comments, BB427. I was thinking the same thing, especially since I will still have the amp idiot light. That way if there is a problem with the alternatior, I can tell that l still I have enough voltage to get off the road to a safe place, hopefully.

The wiring should be simpler by not having to run big wire through the firewall. I had a piece of thin birch plywood that I cut out today to fit the opening between the console and the radio with holes for the three gauges. I plan to paint it black and mount it using velcro tape at each end. Should look pretty good with the other black dash parts and also be easy to pull out if needed.

If you want to match the rest the black around it, get some black vinyl adhesive fabric. Home Depot sells rolls pretty cheap, and that's what I covered my console insert and other pieces with. I think it was about $6 for a 18" wide 15' long piece.

Good idea, will check with Home Depot. Have you had that on very long? Just wondered how well it will stay in place during a hot summer?

Kinda off topic but a high school friend, way back when, had a 71 Nova v8 3 peed on the tree. He put a Hurst floor conversion in it which looked pretty good. He mounted one of those large sun super tachs on the column and when he shifted gears, the column still moved and tach would move with it. He didn't seem to mind but I always wondered why he didn't disconnect the linkage for that column.

Because if the sleeve did not rotate, the tumbler will not go to LOCK and key cannot be withdrawn. Plus back-up lights would not work either as b-up sw in the column.

As long as the surface is made from something smooth and clean the shelf adhesive sticks really well! No issues at all with it coming loose.

Before applying the vinyl with adhesive, clean the surface with alcohol for a clean surface.
