Up and running, just a question though
I finally got the 350 in my 79 running, my question is about the carburetor. I don't have any experience with them so you may have to go slow. It will idle but if I move the throttle lever anything but slow it will start to die. If I move the lever slowly it will bog a bit and then run at a higher rpm. Is there an adjustment I need to make or do I have to rebuild the carburetor? It's a Carter AFB 625 CFM. Thanks for any advice.
Your idle jets are for just that...idle. As soon as you open the throttle plates, the idle circuit has no bearing on part to full throttle performance. Fiddling with those won't solve your problem.
After you shut the engine off, look down the carb and pump the throttle lever a couple of times. You should see gas squirting into the venturi. If not, you have a bad accelerator pump, which would cause a stumble. Also make sure your choke is working properly.

Try the idle mixture screws first, but it really sounds like your accelerator pump is not working. Check the linkage rod and make sure it is connected to the throttle plate and up to the accelerator pump (front left side of carb). This should move with the throttle and you should see the pump being pushed down when you open the throttle. Hold the choke open and open the throttle a bit, you should see gas being pumped into the engine, If you do not then the pump is not working. Either the pump diaphram is shot or gas is not getting to the pump (stuck check valve) inside the carb.
Thanks for all the replies, it's been very helpful. It doesn't have a choke on it at all yet. I got it from the original owner of the car and I am on a no money budget this month so I haven't put a choke on the carb yet. When I got the carb the accelerator pump was adjusted funny and would catch on the corner of the housing so I moved the linkage into another hole so it wouldn't catch, I was suspecting that but I had to make sure. Again, thanks for all the help
