Default Tremec 5 Spd

I am nearing the time where i will swap out my auto trans for a tremec tko600. I have heard a lot of good things about these trannys. I found a retailer that seels them in a kit, that basically gives you everything you need for every application, including a shortened driveshaft, and a new bolt in crossmember. I have shopped around some and havent found much difference in prices. Was just curious if someone has put one of these tremecs in their 2nd gen camaro. If so what kind of trouble did you run into, pluses and minuses? etc. Thanks

I just installed the TKO600 kit on my 67 Camaro, S/B, and it went smooth up until the time that the Z-bar interfered with my shorty style headers. I am stuck because I cannot fit the shorty's and I jusrt tried the block huggers and they hit my steering box! I don't know what to do next. I don't want long tubes and I doubt I will be able to get those to fit. My last chance is putting my old stock manifolds back on for the time being but that's gonna look silly. I am dying to try oput the new Tremec.

If you know of any suggestions, please post them.

I would bet most long tubes will fit. Mine are Headmans, they have the best fit I have ever seen. Even the back drive linkage isn't an issue. As for the tranny, I would spend the extra couple hundred to ship it to Liberty gear. Tremics are notorious for missing second above 6g. But if you don't plan on shifting that high don't worry about it.

To the OP Hurst Drivelines is probably the place your talking about. Like you said, same price where ever you go.

Thanks for the info.

I am looking at the Headmen headers, and also the Summit SUM-G9001. When you installed your Headmans did you have to raise the engine or remove the P/S gearbox to install? Also did they install from the top or bottom?

I was trying to find a shorty that would fit to avoid grround clarance issues. Do you bottom out the long tubes with th minimal ground clearance?

Thanls,

I have headman comp plus long tubes on a 77 4 speed super t-10 and all is well they don't extend any lower than the sub frame and ground clearance hasn't been an issue

There are pics of mine in my project thread. They fit as close to the body as any header I've ever owned. No lower than the sub frame connectors.
