Default trans leak

i have a th 350 trans in a 80 camaro and i cant stop the leak. ive done everything. i think i narrowed it down to the spot where the detent cable goes into the trans. what i need help on is that i dont know if there is supposed to be a gasket or a o ring inbetween the trans and the cable itself. if so how do i take the cable out of the trans to put it on. the trans is still in the car. and can i put the cable back on without a problem. its very hard to get at but i hope i can manage without taking the trans out. thanks in advance for the help.

The shift linkage lever is held on with one nut.
But before you mess with that, I would check to see if the leak might possibly be coming from your speedo gear housing. That's a very popular source of trans leaks.

I was going to say the same thing cause that is a very common spot. My dads 69 camaro started leaking about a month ago and when we started looking it was the speedo seal.

well. what you do is. spray the tranny down with brake cleaner. than drive the car a little bit and see if that helps at all. and if you do find that its leaving from the kick down cable. heres what you have to do. (ITS A PAIN)

1.) remove pan.
2.) unbolt cable from side of trans.
3.) remove calbe ROD. its a little rod that goes from the cable to the thing inside the tranny.
4.) pull cable out and put an O ring around ot
5.) put rod back into the hole.
6.) make sure the cable has a good connection ( detach from the side of carb and pull a couple times)
7.) put pan back on.

it sounds easy but its a pain. i had the same problem on mine. but i changed the o ring, AND BAM. stoped the leak. and had fresh fluid and filter for the thing also.
