If you really meant 4610, and not 4160, those were a Ford carb built by Holley. If you meant 4160, then as usual I'm always needing something right after everybody tosses them away. I can't even find a good rebuildable 4160 around here for less than $50 ea.
The tunnel ram is fine, but I've always wanted to try a cross ram, and found this one cheap enough that if it isn't to my liking I can always resell it for what I paid quickly. I'll keep the tunnel ram on the shelf for awhile, but have a friend who wants it if I like the cross ram better.
And the engine shop called yesterday and said the SBC is almost done. All the machine work is done, and it's been balanced, so all they have to do now is just assemble it, which will take a day or two he said.

The ones I had were 4160's. The ones at the yard could be anything. Some Ford some aftermarket. I just had too many. One went on that red T/A I had a while back. One was the first carb I ever modded. I milled the choke horn and blended the venturis into the top like Demon's. This was done in a metal finishing shop with all the right tools. Anyhow, the last one was the carb that caused so much "fun" in my short box back when it was a DD. It would hang the needle/seat and flood. I could hear it pouring gas when I shut it down. I cleaned it, replaced the filter a couple times, replaced the need assemble twice and triple checked the float level. That thing almost killed me twice too. Once I had to run wide open on a country road because it was flooding. Once I found a short where the wire from the alt went over the intake and down to the starter. Guess when I found it? When setting the float! I was on fire, the truck was on fire. I live in apartment complex at the time, no hose. I didnt even have a wrench to disconnect the battery. I pulled off my flannel to suffocate the fire but the freaking wire kept arcing and reigniting it. Crazy as it was a buddy I worked with years before as a pizza boy pulled in next to me. After a real fast how you been doing? He had a Crescent and saved my rear.

Default Wow

Wow, that's quite a story! My dad caught my old truck on fire when he was helping me work on it years ago and had forgotten to put a hose clamp on the fuel hose to the carb. He started the engine and it caught on fire, all he had around was a patch of old carpet which he threw on it and it melted all over the carb. Big mess, but nobody was hurt. Hope you didn't have any injuries from your fire.

Nah, no one was hurt. I have had a few close calls like that. The worst was in high school (early 90's) a friend had a cherry 70 Cutlass four door. Not special but really clean and the same green my Nova was so I have a soft spot for the color. Anyhow he too had a loose fuel line that puddled on the intake. When we went around a corner the puddle spilled on the exhaust manifold. Long stort short we sat there watching as the tires popped, the wipers melted to the windshield and the battery exploded. Then the fire department literally put the hose one the carb and cut loose filling the motor with water. Bad day!

Those kind of stories are why every car I own has a fire extinguisher in it! At least with an electrical short I can try to knock it down each time it arcs again, until I can get it clear or cut the wire!
I found two Holley 600 cfm 1850-C with manual chokes direct from Holley, and cheap! Not $10 ea., but way less than Summit of Jegs prices!
