Tranny Question
Hi, I have a 1970 Camaro and I am putting a 383 with 450hp in it. I need to know which trans would be best for my car if i am puttin that engine in it.If i were to go automatic i was thinkin the GM TH700-R4/4L60 or if i were to go manual i was thinkin the Tremec TKO 5-Speed trans. Would like to go manual but some people have said that it would be better to go with the TH700. Any thoughts.
Thanks
Thanks
Man I'm in the same boat. I really want to go with a manual tranny if its not a very difficult thing to do. I recently purchased a 77 original auto trans car. But since its just about totally apart,,, now would be the time to make the conversion if I'm going to do it.
I have a 1990 with a five speed I was going to use. Has anyone ever attempted this change. I don't know if the shifter will come out in the right location to poke up through the floor. I will make somewhat long trips ie 300 miles or so, and don't want be running 2700 RPM at cruise. Currently in the 1990 at 70 MPH it runs around 1700/1800 RPM with a 3.83 geared rear end.
I'll check later for your input.

The 5-speed is a much more fun to drive transmission than an automatic anyday. But the TH-400 is probibly more cost efficient because unless your car already has a manual set up it will be more expensive considering you will have to buy the clutch and brake assembly, linkage, clutch, and shifter. Unless you are on a budget this should not matter to much. But it didn't stop me from putting a m-22 into my 69 and it was a factory automatic. If i were you the tko is the way to go!
