Default tranny question

Ok I have a couple of manual transmission ?'s. One- if you are driving and your rpm is less than 2000 and you try to accelerate there is a odd noise coming from the tranny, and when you get above 2000 it goes away for the most part, it might still be there a little but not much at all. And I know if you want to accelerate I should just down shift, but I am wondering if it would be anything to worry about, or what could it possibly be.

Two- I was told it was a shifting solenoid but what do you think. when shifting from 4th to 5th if you are not around 2000 rpm it grinds, and when putting it into rev. it grinds a little too. 1st thur 4th are perfect. what do you guys think.

There are no shift solenoids in manual transmissions. The grinding is probably due to bad synchros, or the clutch not releasing fully.
