Default 4th gen tranny question

The other day someone was telling me that 4th gen camaros with the LT1 have a feature that causes them to shift from 1st to 4th at low RPM's on the six speeds. Now I could understand that on an automatic, but on a manual transmission? Just wondering if it was true or not.

There is an electronic interlock that keeps you from shifting from 1 to 2 to 3 unless a certain amount of throttle is applied. There are kits available to bypass all that nonsense.

is this the kit that says "skip shift" on the gauge next to your fuel amount? So your saying i can skip from 1st to 3rd without worrying about hurting my tranny?

It really is the opposite. The factory setting wants (forces you) to skip gears in order to save gas. This only happens at part throttle. The kit bypasses the factory skip shift feature and allows you to shift any way you please. Including dropping into first at 100MPH and blowing the engine.

Thanks for the help. I have a friend with a 93 Z 6 speed that doesnt do it. I guess the previous owner installed one of those kits.
