i am restoring a 69 camaro and when i was taking down all the old paint on the roof i saw that there was lead in the windshield a pillars and on both side of the rear sail panals. Is this normal or do you think the roof might have been replace back in the day? Any help would be great thanks

 

This was normal from the factory. It is where chevy welded it together.

 

I would like to confirm that also. Lead was the bonding process of the time. The roof wasn't welded the traditional way with a welder because it would heat the metal too much and warp the roof and pillars. To avoid that problem they used an oxyacetaline tortch to heat the two pieces hot enough just to melt lead. It's like soldering.

 

The roofs are leaded because it was used as a filler. There was no such thing as bondo and lead has been used for many years since the invention of "bondo" (or any brand plastic filler) The lead does not shrink and its just file, prime and paint.
