Hello Everyone,

Never posted on here except in another post to introduce my car. I currently have an old set of rusty headers on my car 1979 350 Z/28, and she is straight piped with no mufflers. I noticed that after driving around for a while the car becomes a pain to start. I looked underneath and to my surprise the headers are literally touching the starter. I've already replaced the starter once, and am looking to get rid of the headers and put in some new ones. I don't need to be really fancy or anything, but want to know what the best brand would be that would at least give my starter some breathing room, and I'm also looking to slap on some Flowmasters. All advice is welcome please. Thanks.

 

Well there are a lot of choices out there and prices as well, Hooker basics are good for the money as a middle of the road choice.
I for one don't like to scrimp on headers, good headers will save you money in the long run with a better fit and longer life.
I spent the money for ARH on my car and couldn't be happier, they fit like they should and are stainless steel so they'll last the lifetime of the car and won't rust.
Here's a set for your car but you might want to be sitting down when you look at the price.

I have a 1979 Z-28 RS Camaro .It has a supercharged small block chevy .With a set of Doug Thorley "Big Tube" ceramic coated headers ,2 1/4 exhaust with Flomaster 2 chamber mufflers .Factory exhaust tail pipes .I also use a Tilton style mini-starter With a Moroso #74300 starter heat shield .With no issues ,Just to ask watch are you going to do with the car .And engine combination That will determine what type and brand of header to use.

 

I like using the mid length headers. They are stainless, they will discolor bot wont rust out. They offer more room for clearance to the starter keeping it cooler. They do not get mashed up by speed bumps. They generally have a pretty thick flange so they are easier to keep sealed... Disadvantage is that they require a down pipe to mate up to the regular header exhaust, but that is usually easily made at any exhaust shop. Just make sure they use Aluminized pipe, or preferably stainless!
