Default headers and starters

I own a 68 chevy pickup that we put headers on and the starter would get so hot that it wouldnt start untill it cooled... Having experienced the problem on that, i would REALLY rather not on this car. Is there a problem with the starter on these? Is it worth the starter shield?

Jst get a mini-starter you can check Sumitt or Jegs for one. To much work to fab the heat shield to fit. Been there and done it.

they dont have "pre-made" shields? We happened to find one on JC Whittney for my truck. Hell i cant see the headers anyway, i could just wrap them. But has anybody had trouble with them before? or is it going to be ok?

I had the problem of heat soak with my SLP Headers and the Mini Starter solved the problem. I am against any kind of wrap on exhaust parts.

That used to be a problem with the old OEM starters. It has been resolved with the new style mini starters.
