My 81 project
Look at your fuse block. By some fuses you'll see a 1/4" male spade connector. Just attach a female 1/4" spade to a wire and plug the female onto the fuse block. Then attach another wire to a metal spot under the dash. Now coonect the ends to your battery, and you'll have 12 volts to the fuse block.
Was gonna try that this weekend but I don't have a battery (I didnt want to take the one out of my truck). Figured I'd just go to wally world and buy a cheap battery... but... Murphy executed his Law and I had a flat on the way home... so I had to spend that money on a tire. Figures huh?
For what you're doing you could just get a heavy duty 12 volt flashlight lantern battery. They're great, as they have terminals that are threaded and come with plastic nuts too. Just twist the wires around the terminal on the battery, and you're ready to test. They'll run down if you run the headlightsa for anything but a quick on-off, but work for the rest of the testing.
I never got to try the backfeeding the fuse box thing, my dad had a heart attack (well... the doctors called it a heart failure). He's ok but still in the hospital so thats kept my attention.
I sold the 305 I bought a few weeks ago, I needed tires on my truck. Plus the kid gave me $100 more than I paid (doubled my money)... so I'll be in the market for another engine eventually. Concentrating on the interior right now... bought a center console off ebay last week for $100 shipped. Gonna try to get the carpet or the weather-stripping next. This is going to be a long project!
